【Recommended Camper Van Rental in Taipei】A Weekend Getaway for a Taipei Couple with 03 Camper
Having lived in Tianmu, Taipei for eight years, my girlfriend Sophie and I have grown used to the area’s relaxed pace and everyday convenience. Sophie is German, she originally came to Taiwan to study and later decided to stay and work. Over time, she developed a deep affection for this place. But with our busy daily routines, we began to crave a trip that would truly help us slow down and relax.
“Why don’t we try traveling in a camper van?” Sophie suddenly suggested one evening over dinner. She loves being close to nature but didn’t want the hassle of setting up a tent. Once we agreed on renting a camper van, we immediately searched on Google for “Taipei camper van rental”and“recommended camper vans in Taipei,”and that’s when we realized there are actually quite a few companies offering camper van rentals in the city.

Why did we choose the 03 Camper California Beach?
Among so many options, we noticed the California Beach, often described as a dream camper, on the 03 Camper website. It features seating for five and sleeping space for four, with a spacious interior that never felt cramped. What attracted us most was the pop-up roof, which creates a separate double sleeping area with a comfortable bed.
The van is also equipped with a built-in parking air-conditioning and heating system, along with a portable refrigerator. For us, especially since we’re sensitive to heat and care about keeping food fresh, the California Beach perfectly matched our needs. On top of that, the pickup location was very convenient for us as Tianmu residents, so we decided to rent this model from 03 Camper.

Once we confirmed the vehicle, I reached out online to ask about the rental details. I was initially worried the process might be complicated, but the staff responded much faster than expected. They patiently answered all our questions about how to use the camper van and proactively asked whether we needed any additional equipment. They even recommended campsites that are suitable for camper van stays.
In the end, we chose Jingting Campground in Miaoli. For anyone planning a similar trip, the camper-friendly campsites recommended by 03 Camper are definitely worth checking out.
Exploring Hidden Gems in Miaoli: A Ranch, an Old Train Station, and a Historic Bridge
We chose Miaoli because Sophie had never been there before, and the drive wasn’t too long, perfect for a weekend trip. With that in mind, we started planning a series of relaxed stops along the way.
One of our first destinations was Flying Cow Ranch in Tongxiao, Miaoli. It’s a great place to visit with friends or family, offering everything from food and drinks to fun activities, and it’s also a well-known filming location for popular TV dramas. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to join the cow-milking experience this time, but it’s definitely something we’d love to try on our next visit.

Around lunchtime, we stopped by Jinbang Noodle House, a highly popular local spot. Even close to 3 p.m., there was still a long line outside. The rich, savory broth paired with springy noodles left a lasting impression, and the portions were generous yet reasonably priced. The value for money was incredible, no wonder it’s such a well-known place with crowds lining up every day.

Later on, we arrived at Sheng Hsing railway station, where the railway tracks, platforms, and buildings still preserve the charm of an earlier era. What we were most excited about was the guided ride on the Old Mountain Line rail bike. As we passed through the tunnels, the decorative lighting made the moment feel especially romantic.
Riding past the southern section of Long-Teng Bridge ( North Section ) while taking in the scenery on both sides, we were both deeply moved by Taiwan’s mountain landscapes and its rich history.

A First Look at Jingting Campground in Sanyi, Miaoli:Testing the California beach
After arriving at Jingting Campground, the terraced landscape offered completely unobstructed views. We first opened the side awning, instantly creating a sheltered outdoor space. Then, by rotating the driver’s seat 180 degrees and setting up the folding table and chairs, we quickly turned the area into a comfortable living and dining space.

At night, we lifted the pop-up roof tent, and the mesh windows on both sides allowed fresh air to flow naturally inside. With a clear view of the distant night scenery, we lay down on the specially spring-supported mattress and slept soundly through the night, waking up the next morning without any back or body soreness.

Our First Camper Van Experience Honest Impressions
This was our first time trying camper van travel, and there were four things about the California Beach that left the strongest impression on us:
1. Comfortable sleeping experience:There’s no need to struggle with setting up a tent. Simply pop open the roof, and it quickly turns into a comfortable bed.
2.Temperature control and ventilation:The built-in parking air-conditioning system solves the biggest camping concern — heat. Combined with louvered windows and an exhaust fan, the air stayed well circulated even while sleeping.

3.Interior lounge setup and outdoor table set:By rotating the seats, the interior easily transforms into a lounge where we could sit comfortably to eat or chat. In addition, the folding table and chairs are neatly stored in the rear of the van, taking up virtually no space at all.

4.Easy to drive:Whether on city streets or winding mountain roads, the van handles smoothly and feels very manageable.
The official website clearly lists all pricing details, and 03 Camper offers optional equipment rentals so you can choose based on your needs. There were no surprise charges, which made the whole experience feel transparent and reassuring.

This camper van trip from Taipei to Miaoli left us feeling refreshed and completely recharged, giving us a whole new perspective on camper van travel. We would highly recommend exploring Taiwan by camper van, it’s a truly freeing way to travel.
